Five years ago, we launched Fund II as schools were reopening after more than a year of remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, DC has emerged as the fastest improving urban school system in the country.
We’re excited to share Ed Forward DC’s Fund II Impact Report which examines the education progress we’ve been a part of over the past five years, the successes we’ve shared with our grantees and partners, and what it means for the next chapter of Ed Forward DC’s work to ensure a great public school for every DC student.
We are eager to capitalize on the city’s momentum over the next five years to move DC from steady progress to fulfilling the promise of a great public school for every DC student.
Over Fund II, Ed Forward DC:
- Invested in 47 public charter school networks and district schools comprising 110 school sites
- Funded 5,092 high-quality, high-equity school seats
- Supported over 350 diverse education leaders through fellowships, coaching, and professional development
- Directed 69% of investment dollars to organizations led by Black and/or Latinx executive directors or board chairs
- Secured $62.6 million for the DC education ecosystem
The report tells the story of five strategy areas: reimagining schools, building the talent pipeline, establishing a citywide vision, advancing racial equity, and fostering change through policy and historic investments. More importantly, it shows the real people and dedicated organizations who work tirelessly in pursuit of stronger schools and better-supported students.
