Earlier today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that she was nominating Antwan Wilson to be the next Chancellor of DC Public Schools. Mayor Bowser made her selection after a multi-step process that included a set of recommendations from the DCPS Rising Leadership Committee (a group of citizens supporting the search effort) and substantive feedback from over 400 community members across the city through multiple forums and surveys.
Antwan Wilson has spent over 20 years in education, most recently as the Superintendent of the Oakland Unified School District. Prior to this current role, he spent six years as Assistant Superintendent at Denver Public Schools. His track record of improving student achievement, and his deep commitment to equity, make him a strong choice to build on the work of DCPS in providing a quality education for all students.
The DC City Council will be hosting a series of public roundtables on 11/30, 12/5 and 12/8 to hear from the community on Mr. Wilson’s selection, in advance of confirming the nomination. For more information on the announcement, you can read the press release from the Mayor’s office.
