Kaya Henderson has spent her career serving DC’s public school students in various positions, and since 2007 has led efforts at DC Public Schools to improve achievement for all of DC’s students. In 2010, she became the Chancellor, and her tenure has seen growth of student enrollment, improved student achievement results, rising graduation rates, and a focus on excellence in curriculum and instruction. In June, she announced that she will step down this fall, and John Davis will act as interim Chancellor. With just over a month left in her time as Chancellor, join the celebration of her work using the hashtag #ThankYouKaya.
The Mayor now faces the challenging task of finding a new Chancellor to lead the next chapter of work in the district. In July, Mayor Muriel Bowser named the DCPS Rising Leadership Committee, a group of citizens who will support the search effort. Over the next few weeks, the mayor’s office is seeking input on the search in three community forums:
- Tuesday, August 30, 6:30-8PM at Roosevelt High School
- Wednesday, September 7, 6:30-8PM at Eastern High School
- Wednesday, September 14, 6:30-8PM at Savoy Elementary School
