Ryan is the Communications and Partnerships Associate and works to implement communications strategies and develop external partnerships that support the work of Ed Forward DC. Ryan deeply believes in the power of a high-quality education as a tool for historically marginalized communities to dismantle inequitable systems. Prior to joining Education Forward DC in 2017, Ryan was the Director of Member Services and Initiatives at the Regional Business Council, a consortium of Presidents and Chief Executive Officers that act on high-impact business, civic, and philanthropic affairs for the betterment of the St. Louis region. His responsibilities included managing aspects of membership engagement and the organization’s K-12 education, workforce development, and diversity and inclusion philanthropic efforts. In this role, Ryan managed the allocation of over $1 million in direct grants to support school districts and small business owners in the Ferguson, Missouri community. Before his work at the Regional Business Council, Ryan was the blended learning instructor for fifth and sixth grade students at KIPP Inspire Academy. Ryan began his career teaching tenth and twelfth grade English as a Teach For America corps member. Ryan earned a BA in Sociology and Anthropology with a minor in English Literature from DePauw University and a master’s degree in Secondary Education from the University of Missouri. Originally from Chicago, IL, Ryan currently lives in the Petworth neighborhood and enjoys binge watching Netflix shows, powerlifting, and cooking.
